Can a Regency lady win back the man she rejected?

Lady Sara Rowdon is a day-dreamer who imagines herself jousting with villains. If only she could win her real battle, with love.

At her parents’ insistence, Sara broke her own heart by rejecting her impoverished suitor in hopes of finding a wealthy husband. She had no idea that her father had brought on their financial difficulties by gambling. Since then, Captain Kenneth Link unexpectedly inherited a title and a fortune. Now Sara’s parents, near ruin, order her to win him back, but how can she persuade the new Marquess of Broadmoor that she truly does love him?

Or perhaps, if she stopped day-dreaming and put her mind to it, she might discover that he never stopped loving her, either.

Ms. Diamond is one of the most consistently enjoyable Regency authors around.
-- Melinda Helfer, Romantic Times

I was thrilled to find another author, like Candice Hern, writing in the great tradition of the Heyer Regency.

The DayDreaming Lady A Regency Romance edition by Jacqueline Diamond Romance eBooks

I found the first half of this book tedious and completely full of plotting and scheming, so much so that I was tempted to quit reading altogether. I would certainly not say it's Ms Diamond's best work by any means. All the scheming, lying, plotting and tale telling was NOT pleasant to read through. It finally started to look up and I was shocked to find that I had already read 50% of the book full of nothing useful at all, I was sadly disappointed to say the least.

The DayDreaming Lady A Regency Romance edition by Jacqueline Diamond Romance eBooks Reviews

The basic story is along similar lines as Jane Austen's Persuasion. A young, sweet girl trusts the guidance of her elders over her own heart, and rejects the man she loves because he is below her family in consequence and lacks prospects. Years later they meet again, both still single, but with fortunes reversed. Despite rivals, awkwardness and pain, they come together in the end. The heroine here is a likeable person, and spirited when not caught up in her vivid imagination (which she understandably uses as an escape from her awful parents and awkward social situations). I didn't much like the hero. For most of the book, he's torn between attraction to her and an unpleasant obssession with revenge for her rejection years before. I get that some cynicism and bitterness over his prior treatment is only natural, but his plan to make her fall in love with him and then publicly reject her struck me as small-minded and petty...unattractive qualities in a hero.

There are two other matches made in the book, and the heroine takes the initiative to rescue some unfortunate women, which provided a nice counterbalance to the hero's revenge scheme. In case you're wondering, there are no explicit love scenes. The quality of Diamond's writing and attention to period details is in my opinion much better than you find in many Regeny romances written today.
Too childish. Didn't like it, found it boring and silly. That's all I can say for this book The Day-Dreaming Lady
Enjoyable! Recommended.
This was a refreshingly different read. A real cute story clear to the end. A lady who daydreams her way into the heart of her man. Many laughs. I liked it very much.
This was an okay read but there were a few good scenes of interest. Predictable but pleasant.
This is -such an interesting story. From the first chapter I was hooked on the tale of Sarah oblged to marry a wealthy man due to the gambling habits of her father, the earl. Meeting an old love poor years ago but now in possession of a title and a fortune to go with it causes all sorts of adventures and misunderstandings. A cast of other charactes is skillfully drawn into the action. I couldn't put this tale down the plot unfolds seamlessly. I heartily recommend it to lovers of regeny romance.
Nice idea, convoluted plot, reasonable characters, but; why so long? It is only reasonably paced, and at times slows down to a very slow walk. I found myself skipping 6-8 pages at a time, just waiting for something to happen. the ending? Like going down a dry water slide; you know you're going to end up in the pool sometime, but you wish it would happen sooner. Not recommended unless you really love the genre, and like watching paint dry.
